Jennifer (Jen) Thomas: Native Oregonian with a Heart for Unitarian Universalism As a true native Oregonian at heart, I’ve had the privilege of living in various corners of the United States and the world. Still, my journey always led me back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Now, I’m thrilled to call Oregon my full-time home, and I’m honored to join the First Unitarian community as the Member Engagement Coordinator.

My passion for Unitarian Universalism has taken me on an incredible journey, allowing me to experience the diversity and warmth of many UU congregations across the country. These experiences have enriched my understanding of our faith and deepened my commitment to fostering a sense of belonging within our spiritual community.

In my professional past, I had the privilege of serving the Boise UU Congregation for eight years as their Religious Education Director for Children and Youth. It was a transformative experience, working alongside dedicated families and individuals who share our inclusivity, justice, and compassion values. Additionally, I served on the Pacific Northwest District (now the Western region), the religious education team, and the district search committee for the district executive.

In my personal life, I cherish the time spent with my loving spouse, Steve, and I take immense pride in being a mother to a married daughter and daughter-in-law. I’m grateful for the bonds we share. When I’m not engaged in the world of Unitarian Universalism, you’ll find me traveling and exploring the great outdoors, cooking up a storm, doing home repair and crafting. We also share our home with two feline companions, Penny and Charles, who add endless joy to our lives.

I’m excited to bring my experience and commitment to fostering connections to my role as Member Engagement Coordinator at First Unitarian Portland.
