Moderator’s Letter – June 2022

Greetings,

Last Sunday was a bittersweet goodbye to Rev. Bill. Many of you had an opportunity to say goodbye as Rev. Bill took time over the last month to visit for the last time with many groups in the church. At the goodbye reception we celebrated the many things we have accomplished during our shared ministry with Rev. Bill.

As we look back on this church year, we note that we are still coming out of the pandemic and trying to understand what our new normal will be. Nevertheless, we did accomplish several things: our ministerial search committee completed its work and brought Rev. Alison Miller as our next senior minister; the congregation adopted new three-year goals to guide the work of the church; and we continued to make progress on living into the 8th Principle. The board held two well-attended forums, one on the 8th Principle and one on the transition to a new senior minister.

The board also completed the evaluation of ministry required by our policies. We had challenges – starting in-person worship in November only to revert to virtual with the surge of the delta variant, and maintaining consistent contact with families with young children. We did a good job of managing our finances, making us one of the strongest large congregations. You can read the full report on the Board’s web page.

We are now moving into our summer schedule. There will be one service at 10:00 from now until the fall. Music will be provided by a pickup choir. If you are interested in singing, meet in the sanctuary at 8:30 on Sunday morning.

Have a wonderful summer!

In service,

Board of Trustees
