Kathleen Maloney

I believe we are all connected to each other, the earth, and the cosmos. We are each animated by a soulful essence transcending our limited perceptions and experiences. Our choices about what we devote our energy to shapes our lives. Having a spiritual companion and developing regular spiritual practices can help us make these choices more mindfully, and thus transform our relationship to self, others, and the world.

I am committed to deep, non-judgmental listening to each person’s journey. I believe we can access our innate wisdom and creative healing as the stirrings of heart, mind, body, and soul are shared in confidence.

I am inter-faith and believe spirituality can be, and often is, independent from religion. I have participated in Unitarian Universalist services, programs, and social action groups for 22 years on both coasts. All three of my children graduated from Our Whole Lives, Coming of Age, and Religious Education programs. I taught RE for the UU congregation in Arlington, VA.

While I first discovered my own spirituality in nature, I was raised Catholic, attended Episcopal school, and have explored Quakerism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and Sufism. I participate in a monthly spiritual support and writing group and regularly attend spiritual retreats. My spiritual practices include meditation, prayer, spending time in the wilderness, dancing, listening to music, mindful walks, journaling, and finding creative ways to express caring for others.

My training for Spiritual Direction was completed in 2015 through the Urban Spirituality Center in Portland as well as through regular sessions with my Spiritual Director for over a decade. I continue to participate in a monthly Spiritual Supervision group that formed over five years ago.

I am Certified in Conflict Resolution and Mediation. I serve as a court-connected family law and small claims mediator and run my own family mediation practice. I practiced law before becoming a law professor. I teach Human Rights, International Criminal Law, and Human Trafficking.

I offer a sliding scale fee and can meet online, by phone, or in-person.
