February ’19 Moderator’s Letter

Greetings

I’d like to update you on some board and church activities and invite you to participate in our next forum.

This church year the board has been reaching out to other groups in our church community, attending their meetings and having a dialogue on what is of interest to the group.  In the fall our board/choir members led two dialogues at the all choir retreat. We met with the Social Justice Council in January and learned so much about the rich activities of the social justice groups in our church.  In February the board/Alliance members shared our board goals and answered a wide range of questions at the Alliance luncheon; again learning what issues and topics are important to this group.  And this past Sunday we met with the Council on Hunger and Homeless (COHHO) social justice group who showed active interest in learning about possible campus development.  We have two more dialogues upcoming – with the Youth Group on March 3 and Young Adults Group on April 14.  If your group is interested in having a few board members join you at one of your meetings, please let us know. These have facilitated rich sharing.

Another way of connecting and sharing with each other are the First Connections gatherings. If you are new to First Unitarian or wanting to know more and to get connected, join this new series on Sundays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. There will be time to make connections with others and also to learn something about the church. The next of our Board Forums will be this Sunday, February 24, 1pm in Eliot Chapel. We’ll be addressing our board goal of financial sustainability and discussing how, in the next few years, do we create an Annual Fund Drive (AFD) and other income streams that meet the church’s budget. We will be asking for input on the next church budget and for you to share your thoughts about pledging and how to improve our AFD. Childcare will be provided.

As always, if you have questions or comments, you can email us at board@firstunitarianportland.org.

I look forward to seeing you all in church . . .

In Gratitude,

Kathy Ludlow
