Sermon Topic: A Place Just Right
Choir: Chamber Choir, Sophia Singers
“Bloom”
Music: Philip E. SIlvey
Text: Philip E. Silvey
- Once April rouses earth from deep, silent slumber
and awakens the stirrings of the unopened bud.
Beauty, hidden for a time, duly ushers in the season,
reborn beauty, subtle and sublime, a renaissance of new life in bloom.
Crocus and snowdrop, daffodil and lily
come to life at the surface of the groggy, gray ground.
Beauty, breaking, burgeoning, breath-taking
So brief a time, when the blossom is in its prime,
so brief a time, when the blossom will flourish in its overwhelming beauty,
hidden for a time, duly ushers in the season,
reborn beauty, subtle and sublime, a renaissance of new life in bloom.
“Marienwürmchen”
Music: Rollo Dilworth
Text: Rollo Dilworth
O little lady-bug come sit upon my hand, upon my hand; I do not wish to frighten.
I want to see you fly away with your wings in colorful array
Lovely colors, lovely colors I delight in.
O little lady-bug, away! Your cottage burns, your children cry, your children cry unceasing.
The cruel spider spins nearby, fly little lady-bug oh fly
For your children, for your children cry unceasing.
O little lady-bug, fly on. Another friend, another friend would also wish to meet you.
He wants to see you fly away, with your wings in colorful array.
And greet you, he too would like to greet you.
“I Never Ate a Cloud”
Music: Bud Wayne Bisbee
Text: Peggy Leavitt
The days are getting longer now, it’s hard to stay in bed.
The rising sun slips through the blinds and flickers ’round my head.
The birds start singing early now, I’m wide awake at five.
I simply won’t go back to sleep when all the world’s alive.
I open up the the shutters now, “Hello Spring!”
I feel just wow!
The ice cream man comes down the street,
He has delicious things to eat.
A sandwich, cone, or on a stick,
Such cool and creamy things to lick.
I hear the bells two blocks away,
It sounds so sweet on a sizzling day.
I hold my money for the treat
When the ice cream man comes down the street.
I never ate a cloud, but I would love to try.
I’d like to stretch real high and grab one floating by,
And take a big delicious scoop of sky-high meringue pie.
“The Gift to Be Free”
Music: Rollo Dilworth
Text: Rollo Dilworth
Simple and free.
‘Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be.
And when in the place just right, it will be in the valley of love and delight.
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free.
‘Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be.
And when we find ourselves in the place just right, ’twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained, to bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed.
To turn, turn will be our delight, ’til by turning, turning we come ’round right.
