Sherry R.

Sherry R. (she/her) has been an active Unitarian Universalist since 2008, officially joining in 2010. After retiring in 2000 from Portland Community College and moving to Port Ludlow, Washington, in 2003, she was inspired to attend the Quimper Fellowship in Port Townsend following a pet loss.  She was at first drawn by their unique service celebrating animals; however, she was soon deeply involved and committed to this community. During her tenure there, Sherry was instrumental in expanding their Personnel Committee establishing policies and procedure still in use. She also co-chaired the annual Auction at QUUF for several years.

In 2017, Sherry and her husband Steve relocated to Sun City West, Arizona, where they both became involved with the UU Congregation of Surprise. Her commitment shifted from Quimper to UUCS very quickly and in 2019, Sherry became a Board Member. In 2020, she was elected Board Chair and served until January 2024 when she and Steve moved back to Portland.

A lifelong sailor, Sherry co-founded the Oregon Women’s Sailing Association, which recently celebrated 30 years of empowering women in sailing. She is fluent in ASL and  has taught sign language and has worked at combining her diverse experiences in HR, finance, teaching and organizational leadership to better support her passion for community engagement. Sherry enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, walking, and politics and is eager to contribute wherever she can be most helpful.
