Our congregational year’s spiritual theme is “Join the Journey,” and our topic for the month of May is Belonging. The story of humanity can be told as a journey of migration. People move around the globe seeking economic opportunity and expanded human rights, fleeing from war and violence, due to the impacts of climate change, and to reconnect with family members or to separate from them. Some have also been moved by force. Let us explore the moral questions connected with immigration in these times of heightened activity in the government to deport migrants. How do our lives and our life stories intersect with the story of immigration? What does our first principle call us to do in terms of upholding the worth and dignity of every human being? Who is included when we talk about caring for our neighbors?
