Sam joined First Unitarian Portland at the suggestion of his wife, Ginny, as they sought a compassionate and like-minded community following the challenging election results in November. Together, they found solace in the church’s welcoming atmosphere and shared values.
Sam is passionate about the outdoors, enjoying trail running, hiking, biking, and walking—anything that avoids being in a car. A committed vegan, he also brings a unique perspective to social justice through his work as an attorney. Sam represented two Syrian men imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, traveling multiple times to advocate for their release.
Currently exploring where he might contribute within First Unitarian, Sam is eager to learn more about the church’s committees and groups as he deepens his involvement in the community.
