May: Joanna Ceciliani

Playful Art & Nature
This exhibit has come together in two parts. One incorporates what I have found in nature that has inspired me. It might be the way the light is hitting a flower petal, or the way I interpret an expression of a bird, or the warmth or motion of a certain scene that compels me to capture that moment in time. The other part is to creatively and playfully capture or turn my photos into new abstract images. People find it fun to try to figure out what the original photograph was, how it was captured or where it was taken. Color and movement tend to fascinate me.

Joanna Ceciliani takes professional photos of groups, corporate and personal portraits, as well as families. Her experience as a model has taught her to get people to relax before the camera. She is also adept at capturing an image that brightens or inspires feelings to be enjoyed time and again.
Joanna has been taking photos since she was a child. As a youth, when singing and traveling with the New Oregon Singers, she always had a camera in hand, documenting every destination. During her 21 years of singing professionally with the Portland Opera Chorus, she would photograph singers’ costumes for the opera’s documentation purposes, along with other backstage props and items of interest.
In her retirement, she has focused her efforts on being office manager for the business she and her husband own. She realized, however, she was feeling unbalanced until she added photography back into the mix. Now she spends much of her time with camera in hand, going on photography outings, planning exhibits, helping others with their photo projects, and photographing people and groups, all while happily managing her in-home office.
