May 2020 Moderator’s Letter

Greetings,

As we move through spring we continue to have outstanding Sunday services and music which stream to consistently large numbers of people. The YRUU service a few weeks ago had over 900 devices watching! Not only are you watching, you are also supporting with your financial contributions to our Sunday offering. Thank you!

We will have virtual church services for the rest of this church year (June). The Executive Team and staff, in collaboration with the board, are working hard to plan for on-line worship through next church year. Please read Rev Bill’s blog this week for more information.

I’d like to share the results of our Annual Ballot. Our budget and the changes to our Articles and By-laws all passed. I’m happy to introduce three new board members Caitlynn Hill, Adam House and Marilyn Mays; and welcome Alan Comnes for a second term. Returning Nominating Committee members include Julie Grice, Amy Norcom and Steven Storla. And the Foundation Board welcomes Mabsie Walters.   Check here for the full results.

As we welcome new board members, we also say thank you to three who are ending their board term this year.  Andy Parker, Randy Russell and I are completing 6 years and in Randy’s case 6+. There is a lot of dedication, hard work and love of our church represented in this outgoing group.

The Senior Minister Search Committee hosted a very successful and well attended zoom forum April 19. They will continue to be reaching out to the congregation this spring. If you have thoughts or questions for them here’s how to reach them msc@firstunitarianportland.org.

Our last board meeting for this church year is June 4. If you want to observe or have congregant comments, look for the Zoom link in the agenda of our board packet. You can always contact the board at board@firstunitarianportland.org

Finally, this is my last moderator letter. As I mentioned I’ll be completing my two terms in June. My time serving you on the board and helping lead our beloved community has been a great honor and pleasure. The relationships I’ve built with the rest of the board, Executive Team, staff and many of you are blessings I’ll cherish forever. Thank you.

In Gratitude,

Kathy Ludlow
