Kate J. (she/her) has a long history with Unitarian Universalism, beginning at age seven at First Unitarian Portland and in LRY from 1963 to 1973. Over the years, she has been part of First Parish in Cambridge and First Parish in Arlington, returning to the Portland UU community in 1996 and staying through 2019. She was originally drawn in by church school—first for herself and later through teaching her children’s classes in the 1990s.
Kate enjoys group exercise such as yoga, bicycling, and studying a wide range of topics, including science, economics, finance, and foreign languages. A retired lawyer and corporate finance executive, she also served as volunteer vice president and treasurer for a nonprofit. At First Unitarian, she is interested in helping with financial management as an adjunct volunteer, especially on projects that benefit from her analytical skills and professional experience—even if, as she jokes, her singing voice is not her strongest contribution.
