How Families and Youths at First Unitarian Can Participating in the Upcoming Senior Minister Transition

My name is Brad Taylor and I am a member of First Church’s Board of Trustees.  I am reaching out today to share with you some information about the process that is unfolding to coordinate the transition of Reverend Sinkford’s retirement at the end of next year and to encourage you to consider applying to be on the Ministerial Search Committee.  (You can read Reverend Sinkford’s statement  on his retirement here.) Applications to participate on the Senior Minister Search Committee must be received by January 26th, 2020.

Currently, the Board of Trustees is working  with the Nominating Committee (First Church’s standing committee that has ongoing responsibilities with our church in helping to engage individuals in leadership roles within our community) to establish a Search Committee that will direct our community’s efforts in engaging candidates to become our next Senior Minister.

You can read the information and research that the board has compiled so far here:

We are currently engaging interested church members around the roles and responsibilities of the Search Committee and if they are so moved, encouraging members to apply.

Applications can be found on the Nominating Committee’s webpage. Applications to be on the Search Committee must be received by January 26th, 2020.

I’ll be meeting with the Young Religious Unitarian Universalist Advisory Group this Sunday January 19th and will hopefully schedule a time to meet with the entire Youth Group to help keep the youth informed and engaged in this important process.

As a former teacher within the Religious Education programs and as a parent of a youth who was engaged in the youth programs from kindergarten through 11th grade, I am sensitive to the fact that sometimes a disconnect can be felt between the youth program community and the greater church community.  I would like to help be a bridge between the youth programs and the transition plan and processes and will continue to seek opportunities to engage with families about the work of the Board of Trustees and the progress of the transition plan.

I encourage you to learn more about the upcoming work of the Search Committee and consider if you and/or someone you know would be a good applicant.   I hope to have the chance to meet you in person sometime soon.

Best,

Brad Taylor, Board of Trustees
