Care and Action for Reproductive Dignity (CARD)

MISSION

Our faith tradition calls us to work for reproductive justice as defined by SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective. We share their conviction that every person should have

  1. The right to make decisions for their own body
  2. The right to have children
  3. The right not to have children
  4. The right to raise their families in safe and sustainable communities.

GOALS

CARD honors gender diversity and reproductive freedom. We center the needs of women, girls, trans and nonbinary people whose bodily autonomy and integrity are under attack by political movements, often under the banner of religious fundamentalism.

Currently, CARD focuses efforts on these areas:

  •  Cultivating among First Unitarian congregants a broad understanding of reproductive dignity and encouraging their activism and financial support for efforts to uphold reproductive freedom and access to full-spectrum reproductive healthcare.
  •  Helping build and support a nimble and resilient interfaith collaboration to advocate for reproductive dignity and bodily autonomy in Portland, Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest.
  •  Monitoring and sharing news of legal/political initiatives to limit or expand reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy and leveraging opportunities to oppose restrictions and expand freedom for those seeking care, their supporters, and care providers.
  •  Affirming and promoting diverse voices, especially those speaking for vulnerable and oppressed communities, to advocate for their freedom to make reproductive and gender identity choices and to access needed health care.

When do we meet?

During the 2023-24 church year, September through May, the third Sunday of each month from 12:15 -1:45 p.m. in the Fireside Room.
