Our Denomination
First Unitarian Portland is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) has about 1000 congregations in the U.S. The member congregations are self-governing, joined by covenant and shared values, which are expressed in Article II of the bylaws of the UUA. We have a variety of religious beliefs. We make an annual voluntary contribution to the UUA to help support its activities. The UUA has an annual meeting, the General Assembly (GA) to which we send delegates.
There are also many organizations within the UUA that work on issues that engage with committees of our church. For instance, Create Climate Justice has various activities and actions that link to the work of our Community for Earth. Immigration Justice works with our Immigrant Justice Action Group (IJAG) and Economic Justice cooperates with Economic Justice Action Group (EJAG).

There are also regional UUA groups that we are connected with. At the regional level, there is Pacific Western Region (PWR) which offers support services to the church and has an annual gathering. At the state level, the Earth Ministry Washington an interfaith organization which lobbies at the state on social and economic justice. In the Portland region, the many UU congregations offer mutual support through the Mt. Hood Cluster.
