Pledging - An Annual Tradition
Help support the mission of First Church.

First Church's Annual Fund Drive is held each autumn.  This is when our members and friends make pledges of financial support for the coming calendar year.  Pledges account for 65% of our operating budget.  So, congregants play a decisive role in First Church's ability to fulfill its mission.

Making a Meaningful Pledge

Since each congregant is at a different place financially, we ask everyone to seriously consider making a "liberal tithe" of  5% of their income: a 5% pledge to First Church and 5% to support other nonprofits and causes.  For many congregants a pledge of 5% can be easliy reached or surpassed. For others, such a goal may be difficult.  If so, consider making an initial pledge of 2% to 3% and increase it as your circumstances permit.  If you can afford to pledge more, you will help others who are unable to do so.

There is no minimum pledge requirement; however the board of trustees pledge policy states: "Each voting member is to pledge generosity within his or her means to the annual operating fund of the church."

What Does "Pledging Within Your Means" Mean?

This approach to pledging asks that you look within your heart and determine the financial commitment to our church community that calls you to generosity.  In making this decision, you may wish to consider the role of the church in your life, the church's needs, and your own financial situation.  In deciding how much to give, consider whether the amount you pledge will make a meaningful difference in you life.  Keep in mind:

You are the one makes the decision about what is generous within your means.
Every pledge makes a difference.
