Mary Gear was hired as the Acting Assistant Minister for First Unitarian Church to oversee the Adult Programs, which nurtures the spiritual development of adults in our community. Mary graduated with her Master of Divinity from Starr King School for the Ministry, and has a Masters in Social Work from Walla Walla University and a Bachelors in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin. For more than 20 years, she worked as a social worker in several state systems and private practice. She has been a UU for almost 30 years, and heard the call to ministry while serving as the Music Director for her home congregation in Salem, OR. Her call to congregational ministry solidified throughout her ministerial training, which included an internship at First Unitarian in 2015. Mary lives in Salem with John, her husband of 33 years, and a black cat named Simon.
