Roles and Responsibilities of the Social Justice Director

1. Write Front Steps (monthly newsletter) and Sunday Bulletin (weekly newsletter) articles.

2. Edit articles submitted by others to ensure best use of Social Justice page.

3. Volunteer recruitment.

4. Leadership development.

5. Program development.

6. Grant writing.

7. Assist Social Justice Action groups as needed (e.g., ideas, requests/set-up forms for meetings, etc.)

8. Sort through Social Justice-related mail addressed to the church.

9. Research Social Justice issues & activities.

10. Attend weekly worship service and coffee hours to provide staff accessibility to congregation at large.

11. MEETINGS (some involve agenda development and facilitation):

  • Action group meetings (when appropriate)
  • Social Justice Council
  • Church office staff & program staff meetings
  • Weekly meetings with minister(s)
  • Meetings with individual church members
  • Meetings with individuals from outside the church working with our program
  • Phone meetings
  • 13.  Teach classes periodically.

    14.  Make deposits/check requests for Social Justice program.

    15. Attend appropriate conferences (e.g., General Assembly) and workshops (e.g., Advanced Grant writing).

    16.  Build relationships with Social Justice-oriented UUA leaders throughout the country.

    17.  Public speaking at Social Justice events, both within and outside this church.

    18.  Produce monthly reports to the Board of Directors.
