Foundation Selects Trillium Investment Advisors PDF Print E-mail

Several years ago the First Church Foundation board decided to shift our investment portfolio to a socially responsible investment (SRI) manager. It was the unanimous opinion of the board that this change would more closely align the foundation’s investments with the church’s values.

After an extensive interviewing process, we selected Portfolio 21 to manage our investments.  We were pleased with the philosophy and performance of  Portfolio 21. Unfortunately, changes in their business model this year resulted in the need to locate a new investment management firm.

In late spring, we conducted a second solicitation of investment management candidates, including the UUA Common Endowment Fund.  The board selected Trillium Investment Advisors (Boston) to be its new investment manager. The decision was unanimous but not an easy decision.  A number of  quality firms were interviewed in the process and the Board carefully weighed the option of supporting the UUA Endowment Fund.

Trillium was chosen due to its size, depth of  research and management functions and experience of its portfolio management team. In large part the decision hinged on Trillium’s total commitment to SRI investing.  We carefully noted their long record of competitive investment performance and commitment to advancing environmental sustainability, social justice and human rights through innovate investment and advocacy.

Their primary goal is to provide competitive return while helping us leverage the power of assets to create powerful social change. Their integrated approach includes company screening, proxy voting, public policy involvement and community investing.

Long term growth is their key objective in achieving financial results. Income generation and preservation of capital are secondary objectives.

We are excited about the opportunities for making a difference that this new partnership offers.  We believes it matches up well with the church’s commitment to social justice. We expect the transition to Trillium management to be completed soon. We’ll keep you
apprised of progress and results of  our portfolio performance.
