First Unitarian Church owns the entire city block between SW 12th & SW 13th and SW Salmon & SW Main in downtown Portland.  Please go here for street maps to First Chruch.

Our Main Street Sanctuary, where we hold nearly all worship services, and most large events, is located at the corner of 12th & Main, at 1211 SW Main. All of the directions on this page lead you to this sanctuary.

Our Salmon Street Sanctuary, where we hold special services and most weddings & memorials, is located at the corner of 12th & Salmon, at 1011 SW 12th Ave. Many of our adult education classes are held in this building.

The Church Office is located behind the Main Street Sanctuary, on the corner of 13th & Main, at 1034 SW 13th Ave.

From I-5 headed North
Take the "City Center" exit (I-405);
Take the Salmon Street exit;
Turn right on Salmon Street;
Continue 3 blocks to SW 11th Ave, turn right;
Continue 1 block to Main Street, turn right;
Church is directly ahead on your right, at the corner of SW 12th & Main.

From I-5 headed South
Take I-405 exit;
Take "Couch (Burnside) Street" exit;
Turn left on Burnside;
Turn right on 11th Ave.;
Turn right on Main Street;
Church is directly ahead on your right, at the corner of SW 12th & Main.

From Sunset Highway (Hwy 26) driving East toward Portland
Use center lane through tunnel;
Take "downtown" exit;
Turn left on 12th Ave.;
Continue to SW 12th & Main St., church is on your left.

From I-84 headed West toward Portland
Take left fork at end of I-84;
Take "City Center" exit over Morrison Bridge;
Cross river and continue through downtown (you're on Washington St.);
Turn left on 11th Ave.;
Continue south on 11th Ave to Main St.;
Turn right on Main; church is directly ahead on your right, at the corner of SW 12th & Main.

From Oregon 99 headed North
Stay on 99, which turns into Grand Avenue in Portland, until you reach the Hawthorne Bridge (it will be on your left). Get onto the Hawthorne Bridge and cross the river. This will deposit you on Jefferson Street. Stay on Jefferson until you reach 12th Ave. Turn right, follow 12th until you reach Main (one long block). The church will be on your left on the corner of SW 12th & Main.

By Tri-Met bus
Make sure that you get on a city bus that will go through the bus mall in downtown Portland. Once you've reached the downtown bus mall, get off at either Salmon St. or Main St. (dependant on the bus). Turn west and walk up either Main or Salmon to 12th Street. The church is on the corner of SW 12th & Main.

By Tri-Met MAX
Whether you are going East or West on the MAX, you will want to get off at the Galleria/SW 10th Ave. stop. If you've just gotten off the westbound MAX, you will find yourself at the corner of SW 10th & Morrison. If you've just gotten off the eastbound MAX, you will find yourself at the corner of SW 10th & Yamhill. Walk west two blocks to 12th Ave. Turn left, and walk south down 12th until you reach Main Street. The church is on your right on the corner of 12th & Main.

By Portland Streetcar
If you are coming from the Portland State end, you will need to disembark at the stop at SW 10th & Jefferson. Walk one block north to Main Street, turn left, and walk two blocks west to 12th Ave. You will see the church ahead of you as you walk down Main. If you are coming from the NW 23rd end, you will need to disembark at the stop at SW 11th & Jefferson.  Walk one block north to Main Street, turn left, and walk one block west to 12th Ave. You will see the church ahead of you as you walk down Main.

From the airport, by car
Driving away from the airport, you will be on Airport Way. Follow all of the "Portland" signs. They will lead you to 205 South. Get on 205 South. Stay in the right-hand lane, and keep an eye out for signs for I-84 (they may say only "Portland"). Take the turn off onto I-84 (Again, pay attention; it comes up suddenly!). Watch for the "City Center/Morrison Bridge" exit. Take this exit. It will place you onto Washington St. Follow Washington into downtown, all the way to SW 11th Ave. Turn left on SW 11th & follow to Main Street. Turn right on Main Street. The church is directly ahead on your right, at the corner of SW 12th & Main.

From the airport, by MAX
The Airport MAX runs from approximately 5 a.m. to midnight every day. After reaching downtown, you will want to get off at the Galleria/SW 10th Ave. stop. Walk west two blocks to 12th Ave. Turn left, and walk south down 12th until you reach Main Street. The church is on your right on the corner of 12th & Main. 

From the Greyhound bus station downtown
The station is located at 550 NW 6th Ave. You will need to walk south to Burnside (avenue numbers will go down as you approach Burnside). Turn right at Burnside and walk up to 12th Ave. Turn left at 12th and go up to Main (you will cross over Burnside). The church is on your right at SW 12th & Main. Total, this is about a 20-block walk. You could also take the #14 Tri-Met bus, which originates behind the Greyhound station, on SW 5th Ave. (ask Greyhound attendant for directions). Take this bus to SW 5th & Salmon, and walk one block south to Main Street.  Turn right, then walk 7 blocks west down Main to the church on SW 12th. The cost of this bus ride is free, as it falls within Portland's "Fareless Square."

From the Amtrak train station downtown
The train station is next door to the Greyhound station downtown, at 800 NW 6th Ave. See the "Greyhound" directions above to get to the church. Total, this is about a 22-block walk. You could also take the city bus #14, as mentioned above in the "Greyhound" directions.
