December Holiday Season
Winter Solstice: Give to the Night Celebration, Thurs., Dec. 21, 7 p.m.
Join us as we take back the night. This wonderful, multi-generational service will appeal to all ages. Children are invited to process in at the beginning, with jingle bells and ribbons to deck our halls. Some will be involved in the “calling of the directions.” If you would like your child to participate, go to https://doodle.com/poll/k5in3ughmbkrivhp to add their name, or contact Cathy Cartwright-Chow to learn more.

Giving and Receiving for the Season
Mitten Tree Project, Dec. 3-17
Each year we collect hats, mittens, gloves, and socks to go to a variety of organizations in the greater metro area, including Goose Hollow Families, Perry Center, Volunteers of America, Home Free and Dignity Village. You’ll find a tree to drape things on in the Sanctuary Narthex and the Buchan Atrium.
Gifts for Clients of Central City Concern, Dec 3-17
We like to support CCC by purchasing gifts request by their clients. Please choose a tag from the tree in the Narthex with a description of a specific gift. These must be returned by December 17. Do not wrap it, though a gift bag is great, and attach the tag to the package. Sponsored by Mental Health Action Group. Questions? Call Rosebud Kirwin-Alvord, 503-645-8227.
Help Support Pets within Portland’s Homeless Community, Dec. 10-31
The Animal Ministry group is collecting donations for pets within our city’s homeless community. Help decorate our holiday tree, in Fuller Hall, with new collars, leashes, and toys. Donations will benefit Portland Animal Welfare (PAW) Team.
Donate Poinsettias in Honor of a Loved One
Donate a poinsettia for our sanctuary in memory of, or in honor of a loved one. Mail a check for $16 payable to First Unitarian Church or by going to www.tinyurl.com/firstu-pdx. Please include your name, the person you are memorializing or honoring, and the message you’d like included. You are welcome to take the donated poinsettia home after the Dec. 31 service.
